HISTORY OF THE PLACE
Dharmapuri district is the first district created in Tamil Nadu after independence,it came into existence in the year 1965. Dharmapuri district covers an area of 4500 sq. kms. 70 % of the work force is dependent on Agriculture and the district is known for its mango production. The district accounts for nearly one-half of the mango yield in the state.High quality granite stone is found in abundance in dharmapuri district. Hogenakal and Theerthamalai are the most popular tourist and leisure locations in Dharmapuri District. Dharmapuri town is the district headquarters.
